IN PICTURES: Sulaimani holds cultural festival to mark 234th anniversary

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - People in the Kurdish city of Sulaimani on Monday held a cultural festival to mark the 234th anniversary of the city.

At the festival, organizers offered up Kurdish dishes and showcased some of the city's cultural traditions.

Sulaimani, also spelled Sulaimaniyah or Slemani, is located in the southeast of the Kurdistan Region, some 50 kilometers away from the Iranian border.

The city, whose main roads are decorated with murals of Kurdish figures and volunteer art, was founded on Nov. 14, 1784, by the Kurdish prince Ibrahim Pasha Baban, who named it after his father, Sulaiman Pasha.
