Shop on a bus: Young Kurds in Sulaimani want to break boundaries of fashion

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – A clothing shop in the Kurdistan Region’s Sulaimani province hopes to attract young Kurds who want to express themselves and break the boundaries of fashion. The shop is breaking its own boundaries by selling merchandise on a bus.

“If you have a dream and a vision, do not be afraid to pursue it,” Lere Necmedin, the co-owner of the bus shop, told Kurdistan 24.

Necmedin and her colleague Ciya Cemal came up with the idea to open the shop about three months ago.

“We wanted to create something different that would raise awareness and attract people to come to our shop and see what was inside,” she added.

According to Cemal, the two had been brainstorming different designs for the exterior of the bus and exploring different ways to market their brand for weeks.

“We weren’t happy with the styles in the beginning, but now a lot of people are coming and are interested in the clothes,” he told Kurdistan 24. “A lot of people have complimented the exterior design of the bus as well.”

The clothing shop sells styles that young people can wear no matter their gender, a point Necmedin highlighted.

“There are no more boundaries, all genders can wear whatever they want, and they should not worry about what people think,” she stated.

“Young people can express themselves however they want. We cater to all sorts of fashion ideas.”
