QAMISHLO, Syrian Kurdistan (Kurdistan24) – A groom who lost his life in an explosion that hit the Syrian Kurdistan (Rojava) city of Qamishlo on July 27, was buried on Friday, his intended wedding day.

The tragedy of the Syrian Kurdish groom Ibrahim Farman and his bride Evin has become a popular story spread by people in Rojava.

Kurdistan24 covered the funeral ceremony and talked to Farman’s relatives, including his father-in-law and sister.

“On the day of the explosion (Wednesday), when Ibrahim was visiting his relatives and friends, and inviting them to his wedding, the blast occurred, and the remaining invitations remained unsent,” said Hawas, Farman’s father-in-law.

Hawas explained that Farman’s family left for Europe seven months ago, but he returned to Syria.

“After Ibrahim returned to Syria, he asked for my daughter’s hand, and today (Friday) was supposed to be his wedding, but a blast occurred when he was in a carpenter’s shop nearby and lost his life,” Hawas said.

Additionally, Farman’s distressed sister said that she was planning to organize a fancy wedding party for her brother, but death preceded her plan.

“It’s God’s will that offered him [Farman] the most impressive ceremony,” she said.

A distressing element in Farman’s tragedy that has spread his story in Rojava is that he bought a new suit for his wedding party but refused to try it, preferring to wear it on the wedding day.

“[Ibrahim] refused to try on his wedding suit and tie. He said it would get dirty,” stated Farman's sister.

“I wish he tried it on once before he left us,” she said.

Farman’s aunt also spoke to Kurdistan24 and asked to deliver her message to the world.

“We are tired of this destructive war. I beg you, stop this fighting. This is enough,” she said.

Last week, a truck bomb blast claimed by the Islamic State (IS) took the lives of nearly 50 people and wounded about 150 others in Qamishlo.

The blast was the deadliest of its kind in the city in years.
