WASHINGTON, United States (Kurdistan24) – In a forum hosted by the Hudson Institute, a right-leaning foreign policy think-tank, in Washington, DC, on The Middle East in Crisis, Sen. Marco Rubio stated that Erbil, the regional capital of the Kurdistan Region, is a different world from Baghdad.

Rubio also highlighted the current Washington Post article of the Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC) Chancellor Masrour Barzani. The US Senator stated that Barzani's point towards Kurdish independence was not illegitimate. He noted that he would have made the same argument if he were in Barzani's position.

Rubio recently visited the Kurdistan Region and met with several Region officials in Erbil.

On May 4, Rubio met Barzani in Erbil. During the meeting, Barzani stated that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) tried its best to protect unity and coexistence in Iraq, but now the country is practically divided.
