WASHINGTON DC, United States (Kurdistan24) – In an exclusive interview, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Washington Times said President-elect Donald Trump would shift America’s foreign policy to defeat the Islamic State (IS).

Tom McDevitt of the Washington Times, a newspaper based in Washington, DC, spoke to Kurdistan24 about the political change in the United States after the recent presidential elections.

McDevitt stated there would be a rebalance of politics in the US after Trump and the Republican Party won the majority in the US House and Senate.

“I think America has gone through a big shift—a rebalancing where now Republicans are in charge of the White House, the Senate, and the House,” he told Kurdistan24.

Moreover, the Washington Times Chairman explained there is a “movement growing in America that cherishes the real founding spirit” of the nation since Trump won the election.

McDevitt added Trump cared for people all over the world and would work hard to bring “real change” and shift the US’ foreign policy.

“I do think Mr. Trump understands the importance of defeating [IS], of creating a culture that supports freedom in every country,” he said.

McDevitt also praised the success and perseverance of the Kurdish Peshmerga who have been battling IS since their emergence in June 2014.

The Chairman described the Kurdish fighters as “heroes” and said the American people recognize their “spirit and courage.”

“[America acknowledges] the fighting spirit [of the Peshmerga] and the men and woman who are willing to risk their lives against huge odds to combat with [IS],” McDevitt concluded.
