ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – Iraq's Hashd al-Shaabi, also known as the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), on Saturday found a makeshift prison south of the town of Qairawan made up of several small jail cells.
The forces gained control of the village of al-Cairo on Friday and discovered the prison which was used by the jihadist group.
In a video circulated on social media, fighters explore the house in which IS turned what looks to be dog cages into small jail cells.
The video shows three small cages, each about one square meter small, which are believed to have been used to torture prisoners.
Other tools which were used to cut prisoners' appendages as well as hanging ropes can also be seen lying around the house.
On May 12, the Hashd al-Shaabi launched a military operation to retake Qairawan and surrounding villages which have been under the control of the jihadist group since June 2014.
On Sunday, the Hashd al-Shaabi advanced and took control of the villages of Tel Banat, al-Aziz, Ain Ghazal one and two, Bashuk, Khilo, and Tel Khan south of Sinjar (Shingal) located in the west of Mosul.
