Two earthquakes strike Kurdistan’s Halabja province

Two early morning earthquakes hit the Kurdish province of Halabja and were felt by people in Sulaimani Province, Iraq’s General Directorate for Meteorology and Seismic Monitoring said on Tuesday.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Two early morning earthquakes hit the Kurdish province of Halabja and were felt by people in Sulaimani Province, Iraq’s General Directorate for Meteorology and Seismic Monitoring said on Tuesday.

The first one took place at 3:31 am local time with a magnitude of 4.5 and a depth of 10 km, according to the directorate.

Halabja is located on the border with Iran, 210 km southeast of Erbil.

The tremor was felt in surrounding towns and cities, including Darbandikhan, Penjwen, and Sulaimani.

The second struck in nearly the same location, the Iraqi Directorate continued, had a magnitude of 3.5, and could be felt in surrounding towns.

There were no casualties in the area, according to a Kurdistan 24 correspondent in Halabja.
