KRP Official: Kurdish diaspora to participate in independence referendum
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – The Chief of Staff of the Kurdistan Region Presidency (KRP) stated on Friday that the election committee will allow Kurdish diaspora to vote for the independence referendum.
Fuad Hussein released a statement indicating that Kurdistan’s Independent High Electoral and Referendum Commission (IHERC) will prepare to give the chance to diaspora Kurds to participate in the independence referendum.
Hussein added that in accordance with a presidential doctrine by Masoud Barzani the IHERC has been assigned to make preparations for the independence referendum on Sep. 25, 2017, that would include Kurdistan areas outside of the Region’s administration.
The presidential doctrine says that due to the continued violation of the constitution by the government and the leadership of Iraq and due to the continued denial of the rights of people of Kurdistan, we have decided to go back to our people and let them determine their own future through a referendum, Hussein said.
According to the KRP statement, Barzani mentioned that “Iraq is still full of constitutional violations of the most important components of federalism: lack of revenue sharing, undecided borders, denying Kurdistan’s budget share, not implementing Article 140, and not creating the Federal Council.”
Abiding by the constitution will keep the unity and sovereignty of Iraq, otherwise, violation of the constitution will tears the country apart,” Hussein quoted President Barzani.
