KRG ‘fulfilled’ all of its commitments to reach deal with Baghdad: PM Masrour Barzani

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has fulfilled all of its duties and commitments to reach a deal with the Iraqi government “on the basis of the constitution.”

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has fulfilled all of its duties and commitments to reach a deal with the Iraqi government “on the basis of the constitution,” Prime Minister Masrour Barzani said on Tuesday during a meeting with top British military and political figures.

Prime Minister Barzani’s remarks came during a meeting with a senior British delegation, consisting of James Cleverly, United Kingdom (UK) minister for Middle East and Africa affairs, James Heappey, minister for armed forces, and British Ambassador to Iraq Stephen Hickey, in which bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region and the UK, the KRG and Iraq’s relations were discussed, according to a statement from the prime minister’s office.

The “KRG has fulfilled all of its commitments and duties on the basis of the [Iraqi] constitution to reach a deal with the Iraqi government,” Prime Minister Barzani said in the meeting, according to the statement, adding, the Iraqi federal government “should fulfil its duties by sending the Kurdistan Region’s financial rights and entitlements.”

Another aspect of the meeting was about the bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region and the UK.

The British people look at the role of Peshmerga forces with “respect and appreciation” in the fight against the so-called Islamic State, the delegation said in the meeting, expressing the UK government’s willingness to strengthen relations and coordination between the British government and the Kurdistan Region in “all sectors, particularly in trade and developing British investment” in the region, the statement noted.

For his part, Prime Minister Barzani thanked the “friendly stance” of Britain, according to the statement.
