Late American professor asked to be buried in Kurdistan

An American professor at the University of Soran in the Kurdistan Region unexpectedly passed away on Friday in his home.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – An American professor at the University of Soran in the Kurdistan Region unexpectedly passed away on Friday in his home.

University Lecturer Nicholas Rion Lonnie died on Friday of a reported heart attack in his home in the northeastern city of Soran.

“Nicholas was a wonderful person, he was very dedicated to his work and loved the Kurds very much,” Doctor Nahro Zagros, deputy director of Soran University, told Kurdistan 24.

Zagros, who had been a dear friend of the professor, explained that Lonnie had asked his friends to be buried in Soran if he ever died in Kurdistan. Friends of the American professor are now waiting for his family in the US to approve the burial in Soran.

“He was very keen to do volunteer work in Kurdistan,” Zagros said. The Kurdish official added that Lonnie had been involved with multiple charities and has supervised multiple volunteering campaigns himself.

Professor Lonnie was an expert in Psychology and was a lecturer in the English Department of Soran University.
