ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Iraq’s Directorate of Military Intelligence on Wednesday said they had arrested an Islamic State member known as “Ahmed Satellite” in Nineveh Province.

The Intelligence Directorate’s detachment in Nineveh “arrested one of the most dangerous terrorists nicknamed Ahmed Satellite,” the Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

Ahmed “was working as a Da’esh security member in the al-Sada neighborhood” in the city of Mosul. Da’esh is the Arabic acronym for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.

The purported terrorist “had reported” on members of Iraq’s security forces to the Islamic State, which subsequently “captured and executed” a number of them.

The Islamic State’s terrorist activities continue in Iraq despite the group’s territorial defeat late 2017. They carry out insurgency-style attacks, ambushes, bombings, and kidnappings on a regular basis in liberated and disputed areas.

Late December 2018, Iraq’s intelligence service announced the arrest of an “Islamic scholar,” or “Mufti,” allegedly responsible for the torture and rape of Yezidi (Ezidi) women during the Islamic State’s occupation of Sinjar (Shingal) town in 2014.

“This terrorist was responsible for issuing the orders of torture and rape against the Ezidi people,” the Defense Ministry claimed in a statement at the time. It mentioned that the Mufti was apprehended with an arrest warrant based on the anti-terrorism law.
