KDP ready for unconditional reactivation of Kurdistan parliament: Barzani’s senior assistant

"KDP is always ready to sacrifice for the greater good of Kurdistan."

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – A senior assistant to the Kurdistan Region President says that the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) has expressed readiness to reactivate Kurdistan Parliament without conditions.

Hemin Hawrami, a senior assistant to the Kurdistan Region's President Masoud Barzani, in a series of tweets on Monday revealed that the KDP is prepared to meet with Gorran [Change] Movement to reopen Parliament.

“For the success of the Kurdistan referendum, the KDP is ready to reactivate the Parliament unconditionally and has directly reached out to Gorran on Sunday,” Hawrami said, stating “we all must make sacrifices for unity and the Kurdistan referendum.”

Hawrami, who is also a member of the KDP Leadership Council, said that “despite attacks on our offices and killing of our cadres [by Gorran Movement], the KDP is always ready to sacrifice for the greater good of Kurdistan.”

Hawrami reiterated that there is no postponement in the independence referendum, adding that those who asked to delay the referendum must present their reasons.

The Kurdistan Parliament was disassembled on Oct. 2015 following tensions between the KDP and Gorran over the presidency of the Kurdistan Region. Since then, Parliamentary Speaker Yousif Mohammed, a member of Gorran, has been removed and prevented from entering Parliament. The KDP, the largest party in Parliament, accused him and his side of inciting riots in the Kurdistan Region.
