ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – An Iranian website has been keeping track of dozens of Iranian cities which have witnessed demonstrations over the past week, pointing out that the protests against the country’s economic situation continue despite the lack of coverage.

According to the Iranian People’s Mujahideen Organization’s website, dozens of cities in various provinces witnessed over 70 protests last week, with people taking to the streets against poverty, high unemployment rates, and poor economic conditions in Iran.

The demonstrations erupted in the capitals of the Azerbaijan, Mazandaran, Semnan, Razavi Khorasan, Gilan, Kermanshah, and Ardabil provinces, and were met with heavy repression by security forces.

The protests have been ongoing for months now, with slogans directed at the Iranian government.

“Our enemy is here, and the mistake is to say America is our enemy.”

Large demonstrations broke out in most Iranian cities and even affected the capital of Tehran months ago, where authorities intervened and dispersed crowds through the use of force.

Iran is currently dealing with a currency crisis as the Rial has been in a downward spiral, and hundreds of millions of contraband dollars and euros are being confiscated.

Rising prices, widespread corruption, and concerns about Iran’s costly participation in regional conflicts in Iraq and Syria have led to growing discontent among its citizens.
