PUK: Kurdistan Parliament to convene before August 10

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) called on the political parties on Thursday to joint efforts to reactivate the Kurdistan Region Parliament in August.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) called on the political parties on Thursday to joint efforts to reactivate the Kurdistan Region Parliament in August.

The PUK Political Bureau in a meeting urged all the political parties in the Kurdistan Region to make preparation for the reactivation of the Parliament after a two-year closure.

“The meeting discussions revolved around reactivating Kurdistan parliament no longer than August 10, 2017. All sides will cooperate. No more time should be wasted,” the PUK said in a statement following the meeting.

PUK also called for another meeting of all political parties in the Kurdistan Region to discuss the steps that have been taken for the referendum and to analyze the national, regional and international response to the matter.

“For the success of the Kurdistan referendum, the KDP is ready to reactivate the Parliament unconditionally and directly reached out to Gorran on Sunday,” Hawrami said, adding, “We must all make sacrifices to achieve unity in holding the Kurdistan referendum.”

The Parliament was dismantled on Oct. 2015 following tensions between the KDP and Gorran over the presidency of the Kurdistan Region.

The KDP, the largest party in Parliament, accused Gorran Movement of inciting riots in the Kurdistan Region that led to burning KDP offices and death of its cadres in Sulaimani Governorate.
