KRG modernizes adminstration for efficiency and fraud-prevention

“So far 20 foreigners have been arrested for visa forgery in border crossings.”

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – Ministry of Interior of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is developing an efficient system to modernize the administrative work in the ministry and prevent fraud.

Kareem Sinjary, Minister of Interior, in a press conference on Thursday in Erbil, stated that his ministry directorates such as traffic, passport and residency, custom and airports are now applying advanced technology.

Sinajry explained that some important technological projects have been implemented. When foreigners visit Kurdistan Region, the electronic visa system will record their profile in a database. This way visa forgery, which is a worldwide issue, will be prevented.

“So far more than 20 foreigners have been arrested for visa forgery in the border crossings,” Sinjary said and thanked custom officers and employees of both Erbil and Sulaimani airports for their role in catching offenders.

“With the help of the KRG Department of Information Technology (DIT), we are currently working on updating an electronic system to further safeguard the administrative process in the Ministry of Interior and to fully replace paperwork,” the minister added.

Elsewhere Hiwa Afandi, head of the DIT, stated last week that the KRG is planning to change the mechanism of distributing government employees’ salaries.

According to Afandi the process will occur in two stages: in the first step the employees will get the electronic card, and in the second stage the government will start distributing salary via electronic bank cards.

On April 4, DIT launched Kurdistan’s top level domain, .KRD, to be available for public registration. The KRG encourages organizations and individuals to seize the opportunity to register the names that are important to them.
