Barzani: Role of Iraqi media vital in spreading truth of Kurds’ rights to Arab public

Both sides exchanged views over the political situation in Iraq and the need for further understanding between the ethnic groups and components in the country.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – In a meeting on Wednesday, the President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Chairman of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate reiterated the need to spread the culture of coexistence and understanding between Arabs and Kurds.

Masoud Barzani, Head of the KDP and former Kurdistan Region President, received in Erbil on Wednesday Muayad al-Lami, the Chairman of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate.

Both sides exchanged views over the political situation in Iraq and the need for further understanding between the ethnic groups and components in the country, a statement from Barzani’s office read.

It informed that the meeting shed light on the historic political stages in Iraq and the relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad, in particular.

“The meeting reiterated the role of the media outlets in spreading the culture of coexistence and understanding,” the statement noted, adding that “Arab public opinion should understand the just rights and demands of the people of Kurdistan.”

Barzani and Lami also stressed that the political issues between Erbil and Baghdad should not be used to create antagonism between the nations while expressing the vital role of the media and journalists in correcting the Arab public’s opinion toward the people of Kurdistan.

The situation of Iraqi journalism and threats of extremism and terror were among other topics discussed between the two, the statement concluded.
