KDP’s struggle for Kurdistan’s right to self-determination will continue: Nechirvan Barzani

Vice President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Nechirvan Barzani on Sunday said his party’s struggle to achieve the people of the Kurdistan Region’s right to the self-determination would continue.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Vice President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Nechirvan Barzani on Sunday said his party’s struggle to achieve the people of the Kurdistan Region’s right to the self-determination would continue.

Barzani made the remarks during his party’s elections campaign rally in Erbil, noting that the KDP had “struggled and made sacrifices to guarantee the rights of the people of Kurdistan.”

“Just like how the KDP protected Erbil and the rest of Kurdistan and defended it through the sacrifices of the Peshmerga forces, now, with the same spirit, it goes to Baghdad to defend the rights of the people of Kurdistan and guarantee more achievements for them in Iraq,” he explained.

“The KDP has been established to achieve the rights of the people of the Kurdistan Region and has made sacrifices for them,” Barzani said. “It will continue to achieve all the rights in the same way, including the right of self-determination.”

Barzani also said the KDP would be present at the Iraqi Parliament “to defend the people of Kurdistan, including all ethnic and religious components, and to achieve its objectives through peaceful means and understanding.”

“The KDP and the people of Kurdistan have never sought war unless it was imposed on them by others. We have never chosen war and were never the reason for it,” he affirmed.

During the 2014 elections, the KDP secured 25 seats in the Iraqi Parliament through votes from the Kurdistan Region and areas outside of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s administration.
