Hashd al-Shaabi breached agreement between Iraqi government, Kurdistan Region

The General Command said the policy of the Kurdistan Region is to defeat and eradicate IS extremists.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Region’s General Command of Peshmerga Forces on Tuesday said the presence of Kurdish forces in the liberated areas is part of the ongoing offensive to defeat the Islamic State (IS).

In a statement, the General Command said the policy of the Kurdistan Region is to defeat and eradicate IS extremists.

The report added Peshmerga forces were included in an agreement between the Iraqi government and the US regarding the Mosul operation.

“Peshmerga forces played their role in the Mosul operation successfully, and abide by the signed agreement,” the statement read.

Regarding Shia militia Hashd al-Shaabi’s operation in western Mosul, Tal Afar, and southern Shingal, the statement informed the agreement between the Region and the Iraqi government was breached on several occasions.

The Peshmerga statement warned against any attempts by the “Kurdish traitors” Hashd al-Shaabi to use the fight against IS as an excuse to create problems for the people in the area, Peshmerga, or to enter “Kurdistan’s soil.”

“No force cannot and will not be allowed to enter Kurdistan,” the statement affirmed. “Those who want to test themselves will be faced with Kurdistan’s mountains.”

Last week, a Shia militia commander stated they did not require consent from the Peshmerga forces to enter the Ezidi city of Shingal.

Regarding the future of Shingal, the Peshmerga report said only the people of the region would determine their fate, and no one would be allowed to impose their decision on them.
