Trump invites Palestine’s Abbas to resolve Israeli dispute

The US President Donald Trump on Friday told Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas it was time to resolve the dispute between Israel and Palestine.

WASHINGTON DC, United States (Kurdistan24) – The US President Donald Trump on Friday told Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas it was time to resolve the dispute between Israel and Palestine.

In a phone conversation, President Trump said it was time for a peaceful agreement regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“The President emphasized his personal belief that peace is possible and that the time has come to make a deal,” the White House stated.

Additionally, Trump explained the agreement would be fair for both Palestinians and Israelis, according to a White House readout of the phone call.

“A deal would not only give Israelis and Palestinians the peace and security they deserve but [also] reverberate positively throughout the region and the world,” the White House statement continued.

The report also mentioned any deal “must be negotiated directly between the two parties,” and the US would support both leaders “to make progress toward that goal.”

The Palestinian leader’s spokesman Nabil Abu Rdainah told Palestinian media Abbas “stressed the commitment to peace as a strategic choice to establish a Palestine State alongside the state of Israel.”

Tensions between Israel and Palestine had reignited in recent years, and the dispute over land continues.

On Dec. 23, 2016, a UN Security Council vote confirmed Israeli settlement in the occupied West Bank was a “flagrant violation under international law.”

Despite the decision, the Israeli government approved a law legalizing the construction of homes built on Palestinian land.

Rdainah also indicated Abbas would “emphasize his concern about Israeli settlement-building on occupied land and the need for a two-state solution to the conflict.”
