Erbil Police arrest man who killed Electricity Director in hit-and-run acccident

The Police Directorate of Erbil on Wednesday announced they had arrested the man held responsible for killing the Director of Electricity for the province’s Ashti subdistrict in a hit-and-run car accident.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Police Directorate of Erbil on Wednesday announced they had arrested the man held responsible for killing the Director of Electricity for the province’s Ashti subdistrict in a hit-and-run car accident.

On July 27, Ashti’s Director of Electricity, Aasu Yunis Hamed, was driving on the Erbil – Koya road accompanied by his wife and two kids, Hoger Aziz, the Erbil Police spokesperson, stated in a post on social media.

Aziz added, “They were struck by a pickup truck which resulted in the death of [Hamed] and injury of his wife and two kids. After [the accident], the offender ran away.”

“Once the police were informed [of the accident], we were able to arrest ‘the offender’ who was born in 1965,” he goes on. The statement only provided the initials of the accused, T. H. T, and did not specify the date of the arrest.

The Traffic Police official stressed once more that all drivers must abide by the laws and safety regulations to minimize accidents.

The Soran District traffic police in the Erbil Province on Wednesday also reported a three-car collision in the Khalifan subdistrict where six persons were injured, one of them in critical condition, calling on drivers to respect speed limits and drive carefully.
