Elections Commission announces end of voting across Iraq, Kurdistan Region

Over 24 million people were eligible to vote in Iraq's parliamentary elections, including 3.1 million people in the Kurdistan Region.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has announced the end of the voting process across Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

IHEC officially closed all ballot stations at 6:00 p.m. local time.

Over 24 million people were eligible to vote in Iraq's parliamentary elections, including 3.1 million people in the Kurdistan Region as many people began arriving at voting stations as they opened at 7:00 a.m.

According to IHEC officials, the elections process in the Kurdistan Region went "very smoothly."

Ali Qadir, Head of the IHEC’s Erbil branch, in a press conference, said all the ballot boxes and their devices would be transferred to the IHEC stores for counting.

The initial results will be announced within the next 48 hours, Qadir revealed.
