Seven injured as security forces face off with wanted men in Sulaimani’s Chamchamal

Seven were injured on Sunday night in clashes between security members and two wanted individuals in Chamchamal, according to the town’s mayor.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Seven were injured on Sunday night in clashes between security members and two wanted individuals in Chamchamal, according to the town’s mayor.

“Last night, clashes erupted between security forces in Chamchamal, both local police and Asayish [Security], and two people with an arrest warrant out for them,” Ramak Ramazan, the Mayor of Chamchamal, told Kurdistan 24 on Monday.

He noted that seven people had been injured in the firefight, six of whom were security officers.

“Four of the wounded are policemen, and two are Asayish members,” Ramazan continued. “Five of the injured individuals were transferred to the Chamchamal Hospital. The other two were sent to Sulaimani’s Emergency Hospital due to the severity of their wounds.”

The mayor added that the wanted men, a father and his son, were eventually arrested.

A court ordered the arrest of the two under Article 406, which relates to cases of murder and carries a death sentence.

Chamchamal is located in the province of Sulaimani, 103 km southeast of the Kurdistan Region’s capital.
