Iranian Guards claim to kill three ‘anti-revolutionary terrorists’ on Iraq border

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards on Saturday claim to have killed three militants in a security operation conducted in the west of the country, near the border with Iraq, state media reported.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Iran’s Revolutionary Guards on Saturday claim to have killed three militants in a security operation conducted in the west of the country, near the border with Iraq, state media reported.

The “anti-revolutionary terrorists” had planned attacks after crossing the border into Iran in the province of Kermanshah (Kermashan), the Guards said in a statement published by Iranian news agency IRNA.

The statement did not offer further details about the identity of the militants.

Armed Kurdish opposition groups remain active on the border and regularly target Iran’s Guards in the area.

According to the statement, the Guards injured a fourth militant and confiscated weapons, ammunition, and other equipment.

A local volunteer fighting alongside the Guards was also killed, the statement added.

In June, the Revolutionary Guards claimed to have killed nine militants during a security operation Iran’s border areas.

Border security coordination between Iran and Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region, is not very extensive. The mountainous terrain makes it difficult for authorities to patrol and control the area.

Smugglers and militants take advantage of the rough terrain to set up their operations. As a result, the Kurdistan Region is under constant threat of shelling, with many farmers and families being forced to relocate from the border areas.
