WATCH: US deploys troops to Rojava-Turkey border

DERBASIYE, Syrian Kurdistan (Kurdistan24) – The US military on Friday revealed it had deployed a group of troops along the Syrian Kurdistan (Rojava)-Turkey border to prevent further clashes.

Kurdistan24 correspondent Ekrem Saleh in the area confirmed the deployment of US troops.

Exclusive footage captured by Kurdistan24 shows heavily armored US military vehicles patrolling the border in Derbasiye town, Rojava.

Pentagon Spokesman Captain Jeff Davis also confirmed the reports during a press conference on Friday.

“We continue to urge all the parties involved to focus on the common enemy which is [the Islamic State (IS)],” he affirmed.

Senior Kurdish official Ilham Ahmad, the Co-Chair of the Syria Democratic Council (MSD), told the Associated Press the American troops had arrived on Thursday.

The move follows Turkish airstrikes in Iraq and Syria that left over 40 people dead and several wounded.

On Tuesday, Turkish warplanes shelled Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) groups on Mount Shingal in the Kurdistan Region where six Peshmerga were martyred.

The Turkish assault also targeted the headquarters of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) in Qarachokh mountain, Rojava.

Thirty-eight members of the YPG, a US-backed force battling IS in Syria, were killed and several more injured.

Following the airstrikes, the spokesman for the YPG Redur Xelil told Kurdistan24 the air raid represented Turkey’s support for the insurgent group.

“Turkey’s attack on our areas and forces is read as a means of supporting [IS],” he stated.

In Washington, the State Department expressed their “deep concern” for the violence, reaffirming the airstrikes were not authorized by the US-led coalition battling IS.
