ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un, landed in Singapore on Sunday ahead of a highly-anticipated meeting with US President Donald, which could put an end to a nuclear stand-off between the two countries.

The historic summit between the two leaders will be held on the resort island of Sentosa on Tuesday.

North Korea’s nuclear arsenal -- which was seen as a violation of several UN Security Council sanctions and was threatened with military action by the Trump administration -- will top the meeting’s agenda.

The two countries have been enemies since the 1950s. Leaders of both the US and North Korea have never met previously, nor even spoken by telephone since the Korean war which ended in 1953.

Kim landed in Singapore’s Changi Airport on Sunday wearing his trademark dark Maoist suit. It is his furthest trip abroad as head of state.

He was received by Singapore’s Foreign Minister, Vivian Balakrishnan, who posted a picture on Twitter of him shaking hands with Kim.

The 34-year-old North Koren leader is one of the youngest heads of state in the world.

Kim will also meet with the President of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong, on Sunday, according to Singapore’s Foreign Ministry.

Authorities have imposed tight security around the meeting’s venue and luxury hotels as well as placed additional potted plants outside of Kim’s expected accommodation to block reporters’ views of the polarizing figure, according to AFP.
