PUK, KDP agree on reactivating Kurdistan Parliament led by Gorran

The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) agreed on Tuesday on reactivating Kurdistan Parliament with the current leadership.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) agreed on Tuesday on reactivating Kurdistan Parliament with the current leadership.

KDP and PUK Political Bureaus in a meeting on Tuesday discussed the logistics of the independence referendum and possible mechanisms to reactivate the Kurdistan parliament.

Salahaddin Bahaadin, General Secretary of the Islamic Union of Kurdistan was quoted by his party’s media saying that there has been a new agreement to reactivate Kurdistan parliament.

A source told Kurdistan24 on the condition of anonymity that the first session of the parliament is to be headed by Yousif Mohammed, the current parliament speaker, until Gorran [Change] Movement elects a new leadership for the parliament.

Hemin Hawrami, a KDP Leadership Council member told Kurdistan24 on Tuesday that KDP does not have a problem with Gorran Movement having the presidency of Kurdistan parliament.

Hawrami, who is a senior advisor to the Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani, added that in order to proceed with the referendum, KDP is ready to have an agreement with the political parties to reactivate parliament having the best interest of citizens in mind.
