ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – The German national football team thrashed opponents Norway 6-0 on Monday in a FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifying match in Stuttgart, Germany.

The six-goal thriller ensured the Germans maintained their 100 percent record and stay on top of Group C.

Arsenal forward Mesut Ozil opened the scoring after 10 minutes before a Julian Draxler goal and Timo Werner double sent the Germans into the half with a 4-0 lead.

Norway didn’t offer much after the break as Germany scored two more through substitutes Leon Goretzka and veteran striker Mario Gomez.

After the match, Germany coach Joachim Low said he was pleased with his team’s performance after their narrow 2-1 victory against the Czech Republic last week.

“It was a lot of fun to play here in Stuttgart, the mood was great,” Low said at the post-match press conference. “That shows the beauty of football.”

“After the Czech Republic game, we said there must be another spirit in this team again, and we have made good progress against Norway,” he added.

Werner, whose two goals helped the Germans to victory, said he was delighted to score in front of the home supporters.

“I am glad that I now play regularly in the national team,” said the RB Leipzig forward who has scored six goals in his last eight appearances for Germany.

“To experience this in my home is very special and means a lot to me and I am extremely happy that I was so well received,” he added.

Meanwhile, Norway coach Lars Lagerback conceded defeat, adding the German team “made it very difficult” for the Norwegians.

“Germany is a fantastic team, definitely one of the best in the world,” Lagerback admitted.

Qualification matches are being played all across the world as teams battle to book their tickets to next summer’s World Cup in Russia.
