VIDEO: Hawler FC player dies from swallowing his tongue

A Hawler Football Club player on Sunday passed away from swallowing his tongue during a friendly match at a stadium in Erbil, Kurdistan Region.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – A Hawler Football Club player on Sunday passed away from swallowing his tongue during a friendly match at a stadium in Erbil, Kurdistan Region.

Soran Tahiri, a 24-year-old Kurdish footballer for Hawler FC, swallowed his tongue during a friendly match in Erbil and passed away while on route to the hospital.

Tahiri, who joined Hawler FC in 2010, had played for the club’s youth, reserve, and senior team.

He was recognized as the best youth player during the Kurdistan Youth Tournament in 2011-2012.

In an official statement, Safeen Kanabi, the Head of the Kurdistan Football Association (KFA), sent his condolences to the player’s family, friends, and fellow sportspersons.

Kanabi stated the KFA would take all necessary measures to prevent such incidents from happening again in the future.

Hawler FC, via its spokesperson, expressed concern over the death of Tahiri and sent condolences to his family and friends.

In less than 10 months, Tahiri is the second Hawler FC player who has passed away. In October 2016, 21-year-old Salih Mario died from illness.
