Liverpool end Manchester City’s unbeaten run in seven-goal Premier League thriller

English Premier League leaders Manchester City suffered their first loss of the season after losing 4-3 to Liverpool on Sunday.

ERBIL, Kurdistan 24 (Kurdistan 24) – English Premier League leaders Manchester City suffered their first loss of the season after losing 4-3 to Liverpool on Sunday.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain put Liverpool in the lead in front of the Kopp End at Anfield before Leroy Sane equalized to send the teams into the break at 1-1.

Liverpool scored three goals in eight second-half minutes after Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, and Mohamed Salah were all on target, but Manchester City ensured a nervy finish to the match as they scored twice through Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan.

The victory was a crucial three points for Liverpool who move to third-place in the Premier League while City remains top of the table with 62 points—15 points clear of second-place Manchester United who play Stoke City tomorrow.

Speaking to reporters after Sunday's match, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said his side “deserved” the victory despite Manchester City’s perseverance.

“That’s why so many people love this game,” he said. “We deserved the three points, even if [City] made it close.”

The loss ends an impressive 22-match unbeaten run in the Premier League as Manchester City’s blistering form this season has put them well beyond their rivals.

Before the game, Manchester City Manager Pep Guardiola admitted his side were not unbeatable and could stumble at some point this season.

“In football and in sport, anything can happen,” he said during a pre-match press conference. “Of course, we can lose the title because you never know what is going to happen in the next 13 or 14 games.”

Since the start of the 2017/18 season, Manchester City has broken several records including the Premier League’s longest win streak with 15 consecutive wins after their 4-0 hammering of Swansea City in December.

Despite no longer being able to emulate Arsenal’s infamous “invincibles” season in 2003/04, where the team went an entire campaign unbeaten, Manchester City is almost certainly guaranteed to lift the Premier League trophy at the end of the season.
