Pompeo to Masrour Barzani: US committed to cooperation with its allies, partners

In his letter to Masrour Barzani, Mike Pompeo said the United States would work with its allies and partners to ensure regional and global security.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has reiterated his country’s commitment to anti-terror efforts and stabilization projects in the Middle East.

In response to a letter sent by Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC) Chancellor Masrour Barzani congratulating Pompeo on his new role, the US Secretary of State emphasized the importance of cooperation between America and its partners.

In the letter, Pompeo also expressed Washington’s commitment to cooperation with all of its international allies and reiterated that the US would work with its partners to ensure the security of the region and the world.

In April, the US Senate confirmed Pompeo as President Donald Trump’s secretary of state, putting the former CIA director in a pivotal role to handle US foreign policy challenges.

During one of his first major foreign policy addresses on Monday, Pompeo delivered remarks on the US’ new Iran strategy following Washington’s withdrawal earlier this month from a nuclear deal signed with Tehran and world powers.

The Secretary of State explained that any new agreement would ensure Iran does not acquire a nuclear weapon and guarantee it permanently abandons enrichment of uranium and end its proliferation of ballistic missiles.

He also said the US welcomes any nation which is “sick and tired” of the brutality of the Iranian regime to join Washington in cracking down on Iran’s malign activities.
