Kurdish artist NOURI’s latest single tops New Zealand iTunes charts upon release

Kurdish pop artist NOURI’s latest single “miss all ur jokes” stormed to the top of iTunes streaming rankings in New Zealand, surpassing the likes of Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, and Dua Lipa.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdish pop artist NOURI’s latest single “miss all ur jokes” stormed to the top of iTunes streaming rankings in New Zealand, surpassing the likes of Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, and Dua Lipa.

NOURI teamed up with five-time Grammy-award winning producer Brian Kennedy for her latest project, which was officially released on May 22, 2020. Kennedy has worked with several notable musical stars such as Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Chris Brown, and Kelly Clarkson.

“miss all ur jokes” is the Kurdish singer and songwriter’s third successful single, after the release of her debut one called “Where Do We Go From Here,” followed by “Favorite Goodbye.”

Since making her debut in November 2018, NOURI has quickly been recognized as “the one to watch,” receiving plaudits for her work from many Middle East as well as Western media.

Like many people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, NOURI is forced to work from home. She relayed to Kurdistan 24 the challenging transition she had to make because of the global event, which has “affected the creative process.”

“Everything changed so fast, and you couldn’t really prepare for it,” she said. “I’m so used to being in the same room as artists, producers, and writers where you feed off the energy in the room.”

NOURI said studio sessions have been adapted to FaceTime or Zoom calls, which she admits is not the same as face-to-face collaboration but “will have to do for now.”

“I’m lucky enough to be surrounded by an amazing, talented team who always brings the right energy and get things done even during this pandemic.”

The Kurdish artist did note, however, that the process for releasing songs has not changed much. Once the song is mixed and mastered, you promote it on social media platforms as you normally would.

The process “is great right now because everyone’s at home and on their phones.”
