WATCH: Iranian Kurdish women join Peshmerga, fight IS

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdish women of Iranian Kurdistan (Rojhelat) join the PAK Peshmerga forces and fight against the Islamic State (IS) on the Kurdistan Region front lines.

The Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK) is a Rojhelat-based Kurdish party and one of the Peshmerga units fighting the jihadist group in southern Kurdistan Region, mostly in southwestern Kirkuk Province.

The party is one of the Kurdish opposition rebel groups against the Iranian government that seeks to attain Kurdish national rights within the democratic, federal republic of Iran.

The female unit of the PAK told Kurdistan24 that women have the duty to protect their homeland from enemies hand in hand with Peshmerga soldiers.

Hazha, a 20-year-old Kurdish woman, stated she decided to leave Rojhelat and join Peshmerga two years ago after she saw the struggle of the Kurdish forces in the Kurdistan Region fighting IS.

Peshmerga has several female fighter units who fight on the front lines in northern Mosul and southwestern Kirkuk.
