Kurdish security on Saturday morning arrested three Islamic State (IS) militants, killed eight, and one blew himself up in southern Kirkuk, according to Kirkuk police.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – Kurdish security on Saturday morning arrested three Islamic State (IS) militants, killed eight, and one blew himself up in southern Kirkuk, according to Kirkuk police.

Earlier, on Friday morning, IS attacked the province of Kirkuk in the southern Kurdistan Region.

The insurgents temporarily controlled a few buildings inside the province, but the security forces later secured the area and killed some IS militants while the rest escaped to other places in the area.

“Peshmerga and police forces have arrested and killed 11 [IS] militants in southern Kirkuk and continues to chase the remaining militants,” Brigadier Sarhad Qadir, the chief of police forces in Kirkuk, told Kurdistan24.
