ISIS blows up al-Nuri mosque, historical leaning Hadba minaret in Mosul’s Old City

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – The Islamic State (IS) extremists have blown up the great mosque of al-Nuri and historical minaret of al-Hadba in Mosul’s Old City.

A security source inside Mosul told Kurdistan24 on Wednesday that IS extremists planted explosives inside the Great Mosque of al-Nuri and al-Hadba minaret in Mosul’s Old City and detonated it as the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Units besieged and approached the area.

In a statement  the commander of the Mosul Operation Command, Lieutenant-General Abdul-Ameer Yaralla, confirmed the destruction the Nuri mosque and Hadba minaret by IS extremists.

“During the progress of the Counter-Terrorism Units and their decisive victory against IS gangs in Mosul’s Old City, and they reached a distance of 50 meters, IS terrorists blew up the Nuri mosque and historical Hadbaa minaret,” Yaralla said.
