Masoud Barzani: People of Kurdistan have legitimate cause

“Opening a new page and resolving the outstanding issues requires the consideration of consensus and partnership to prevent a repeat of past challenges and problems.”

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Federal Government of Iraq must consider the principles of consensus and partnership to resolve issues between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) said in a meeting with a delegation from Iraq’s al-Fatih Coalition on Saturday.

KDP President Masoud Barzani received a delegation from the al-Fatih (Conquest) Coalition in the Kurdistan Region capital to discuss relations between Erbil and Baghdad as well as the formation of a new Iraqi government.

According to a statement by Barzani’s office, the al-Fatih delegation addressed ways to resolve the tensions between the KRG and the Iraqi government.

The delegation also underlined that opening a new page in the relations between both sides would be in the interest of both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, the statement added.

Barzani, meanwhile, highlighted the relations between Erbil and Baghdad and said the people of Kurdistan have a legitimate cause.

“Opening a new page and resolving the outstanding issues requires the consideration of consensus and partnership to prevent a repeat of past challenges and problems,” he explained.

On Oct. 4, Hadi al-Amiri, the Head of al-Fatih, visited the Kurdistan Region and met separately with the leader of the KDP as well as the Prime Minister of the KRG, Nechirvan Barzani.

During his meeting with KDP President Barzani, Amiri expressed his hope that the Kurdish parties would play an active role in the process of forming a new government in Iraq.
