BCF delivers medical batch to KRG Health Ministry as fight against COVID-19 continues

The Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF) on Tuesday announced the procurement of a batch of medical assistance to the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Health Ministry.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF) on Tuesday announced the procurement of a batch of medical assistance to the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Health Ministry.

The medical assistance by the BCF comes as the Kurdistan Region is winning its fight against COVID-19. But health authorities in the region have advised that the fight is not over yet. Residents are asked to adhere to precautionary measures to thwart a second wave of the virus that is likely to occur if compliance with preventive measures is not achieved.

“What we [BCF] are doing is neither a charity nor a donation nor a gift, but a duty,” Musa Ahmad, head of the BCF, said in a press conference in Erbil.

The medical batch consists of medical kits, antibiotic medications, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). It also contains medical equipment such as respiratory and electrocardiogram (ECG) monitors, eye-testing kits, and birthing beds, according to a BCF handout.

The BCF, in coordination with Emirates Red Crescent, had previously provided the KRG Health Ministry with a 50-bed hospital for COVID-19 patients as well as 5,400 COVID-19 testing kits, the handout revealed.

“We feel safe in the presence of BCF when a crisis hits,” KRG Health Minister Saman Barzinji said, citing the foundation’s responsiveness in times of disaster.

The BCF is one of the most active humanitarian NGOs in Kurdistan that often provides a substantial amount of aid to internally displaced persons and refugees in Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and northern Syria, as well as multiple programs to enrich the lives of displaced children.

On Monday, the BCF announced the delivery of food aid to 500 families in need in Kirkuk province in coordination with the Korek Telecom Company. It also began to distribute the salaries of over 740 orphans in Kirkuk.

The organization was founded in 2005 and, in its own words, “strives to honor the great legacy of Malla Mustafa Barzani, the leader of the Kurdish Liberation Movement and influencer of the contemporary Kurdish nation.”
