Another house fire in Chamchamal kills three kids, leaves mother in critical condition

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Three children from a Kurdish family were killed late Wednesday in a house fire in the Kurdistan Region city of Chamchamal in Sulaimani province.

The kids were between the ages of 1 and 5 and passed away in the blaze that engulfed their home.

Their mother, 23, is in critical condition and was transported to a specialized hospital in the city of Sulaimani.

The house had already burned down when the Civil Defense Team arrived at the scene.

The team is currently investigating the cause of the incident, a tragedy that has been reported to have happened twice before in the past month.

In early November, a fire at a home in the town of Rania killed three members of the same family and hospitalized four others.

Later in November, an ethnically Arab family of seven suffocated due to an electrical short-circuit that resulted in a fire, burning the house and creating large amounts of smoke.

The latter incident also occurred in Chamchamal.

Such incidents are a common occurrence due to poor electrical work in the region, with cases of major fires being recorded in recent months, notably in Erbil’s Qaisary and Langa bazaars, leading to millions of dollars in repair costs.
