The Kurdistan Region President and Iraq's Vice-Presidents on Saturday agreed on holding talks to resolve issues between Baghdad and Erbil.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Region President and Iraq's Vice-Presidents on Saturday agreed on holding talks to resolve issues between Baghdad and Erbil.

Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani met two of the Iraqi President's deputies, Osama Nujaify and Ayad Allawi, at a gathering following the former Iraqi President and Kurdish leader, Jalal Talabani's funeral.

In a statement following the meeting, Fuad Hussein, the Chief of Staff to the Kurdistan Region Presidency said that all sides agreed on four points to de-escalate tensions.

One of the main points was the necessity to hold a dialogue, and for Iraqi political parties to meet with their Kurdish counterparts, Hussein said.

The meeting would be held with an open agenda, Hussein stated, adding that officials would meet in the near future and establish a mechanism for continued cooperation.

The officials also agreed on the need to “lift all sanctions on the Kurdistan Region,” the Presidency Chief of Staff said.
