ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – Iranian Quds Force Commander Qassem Soleimani recently visited former Kurdish President of Iraq Jalal Talabani’s tomb in the province of Sulaimani.
Soleimani visited the grave on Thursday afternoon, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan’s (PUK) media-affiliates reported on Saturday.
Major General Soleimani is the Commander of the Quds Force, the elite extra-territorial special forces arm of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, and reports directly to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Talabani died while receiving care at a hospital in the German capital of Berlin on Oct. 3. He suffered a stroke in late 2012 which led to further health complications in the following years.
On Sep. 11, Talabani flew to Germany to conduct medical tests as follow up treatment for his 2012 stroke.
The late Kurdish leader, who was also the Secretary-General of the PUK, was the sixth President of Iraq since the country’s establishment in 1920.
He was also the first non-Arab politician elected to the position, serving in office from 2005 until 2014.
