Kurds celebrate Newroz, light fire as symbol of event

The Kurdish New Year (Newroz) and March have been the symbol of success for Kurds, bringing light to the Kurdish nation, said the Kurdistan Region President on Monday.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdish New Year (Newroz) and March have been the symbol of success for Kurds, bringing light to the Kurdish nation, said the Kurdistan Region President on Monday.

Newroz marks the coming of Spring and the start of a new year.

For the Kurdish people, Newroz is an event which symbolizes the revolution and struggle of Kurds throughout history.

“I congratulate all people of the Kurdistan Region and Kurds inside and outside of Kurdistan, all ethnic and religious groups in the Region, wishing you all a happy life,” read the statement of the Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani.

He mentioned March had been the month of success, an emergence of light, and a bright future for the Kurdish people.

“The people of the Kurdistan Region should reach its sovereignty and be able to make decisions on its future and life,” the President continued. “This is the best loyal response to the sacrifices of the people.”

President Barzani highlighted the sacrifices of Kurdish people, adding the culture of co-existence, tolerance, and bravery of Peshmerga was not hidden from the world.

Now, the world is proud of Kurdistan and Peshmerga, the President said.

He called on the people of Kurdistan to remain hopeful, stating their patience and strength would lead to a bright future.

Moreover, the Chancellor of the Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC) Masrour Barzani also released a statement, wishing Kurds a happy Newroz.

The Chancellor called on all Kurdish political parties to unite for national interests and overcome the current situation in the region.

Newroz related photos and greetings have circulated on social media networks as Kurds celebrate the event from different parts of the world.
