Theater student in Baghdad killed because of his appearance

Security sources said Noshi, who was a student at the College of Fine Arts in the Iraqi capital, had previously received death threats because of his fashion taste and hairstyles.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (Kurdistan24) – According to security sources and witnesses, a young theater aficionado and actor known as ‘Karar Noshi’ was killed on Monday, two days after he was kidnapped in Baghdad.

One of the witnesses told Kurdistan24 that the budding artist’s body was found dumped on the busy Palestine Street in a central area in Baghdad.

Security sources said Noshi, who was a student at the College of Fine Arts in the Iraqi capital, had previously received death threats because of his fashion taste and hairstyles.

Witnesses also claimed the body of Noshi showed signs of torture and stab wounds possibly inflicted with knives.

Activists published pictures online of the young man’s body lying on the ground.

His family confirmed his death on the same day his body was discovered.

Officials have not immediately offered any comments, and it is unknown who carried out the attack.

Since 2003, many young people have been killed in Iraq due to their appearances and lifestyles or sexual orientations by various militant groups in different parts of Iraq.

According to humanitarian reports, 680 people have been killed from 2004 to 2009, noting a significant deterioration in personal freedoms in the country still reeling from its religious and political conflicts.
