Top Kurdistan Region officials extend condolences to family of deceased Yezidi representative

Senior Kurdistan Region officials on Tuesday expressed their condolences to the family of the deceased Kamaran Khairy Saeed Beg, representative of the Yezidi's Mir (Prince) for religious affairs in Iraq and the world.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Senior Kurdistan Region officials on Tuesday expressed their condolences to the family of the deceased Kamaran Khairy Saeed Beg, representative of the Yezidi’s Mir (Prince) for religious affairs in Iraq and the world.

The representative of the leader of the Yezidis (Ezidis) in Iraq and the world, Kamaran Khairy Beg, passed away on Monday afternoon at Sheikhan district hospital in Duhok province at the age of 65.

“It is with great sorrow I heard the news of the passing of (Mir Kamaran Khairy Beg) the representative of the leader of Ezidis for religious matters in Iraq and the world, may he rest in peace,” Masoud Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), said in a statement.

“I extend my grieving and condolences to Mir Hazim Tahseen Beg, leader of the Ezidis in Iraq and the world, his family, and our Ezidi brothers and sisters for their loss,” the KDP leader added.

Kamaran Khairy Beg is the cousin of the current leader of the Ezidis, Hazim Tahseen Beg. Kamaran was born in 1955 and studied law at Cairo University.

In a statement on Monday, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani extended his commiserations for the death. “On this sore occasion, we express our sincere condolences to his noble family, especially Prince Hazim Tahseen Beg, the leader of Ezidis, and all our Ezidi brothers and sisters,” he said.

Elsewhere, on Monday evening, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani called the leader of the Ezidis of the world, Prince Hazim Tahseen Beg, to offer his condolences and sympathy to the Prince and his family on the death of his cousin, Kamaran Khairy Beg. 

Kamaran Khairy Beg was a member of the Iraqi Constitution Writing Commission in 2003, and he was chosen as a member of the Interim Iraqi National Assembly between 2004 and 2005.

He practised law until 1995, after which he moved to the Kurdistan Region, where he remained until the collapse of the previous Iraqi regime in 2003.

His body is scheduled to be buried on Tuesday in the city of Baadara, during special ceremonies.
