Zeravani SC wins fourth Kurdistan Premier League title

Zeravani’s Brazilian striker Thiago Amaral, who scored twice in the match against Hawler Peshmerga FC, received the golden boot award after he finished the season as the league’s top scorer with 12 goals.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Zeravani Sport Club won the Kurdistan Premier League for the fourth time in its history after a 4-1 victory in the final match of the season over last year’s champions Hawler Peshmerga Football Club.

Nine clubs participated in the 2017/18 Kurdistan Premier League season, which kicked off in February 2018 after five teams pulled out.

Zeravani SC, who came into the game needing all three points to be crowned champions, scored two goals in either half before their opponents eventually scored a consolation goal in the final minutes of the match.

Despite a 1-0 loss to Newroz, Brayati Football Club preserved their spot in second place in the league’s other crucial match.

The inaugural Kurdistan Premier League season was held in 2006/07 and saw Duhok Football Club crowned champions.

Zeravani, the only team to win three consecutive Kurdistan Premier League titles, previously lifted the trophy during the 2012/13, 2013/14, and 2014/15 seasons.

Last season was record-breaking for some clubs as Hawler Peshmerga FC won the 2016/17 title for the first time in its history despite a draw with Kirkuk Football Club in the final match of the season.
