ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – A Kurdish athlete from the Kurdistan Region successfully broke two Guinness World Records on Sunday in Dubai.

Jarjees Rashed, 31, who is from the Dohuk Province, spoke to Kurdistan 24 after receiving his certificates and said he was proud of his achievement.

“Thank God I was able to break two Guinness World Records in Dubai today [Aug. 20],” Rashed said.

“It’s great that my hard work these past months has paid off,” the 31-year-old added.

Rashed is passionate about fitness and has been involved in kickboxing, mixed martial arts, and Muay Thai for over 14 years. As a result, he set out to break fitness-related world records.

Rashed broke the world record for most knuckle pushups with one leg raised while carrying a 40-pound pack in one minute.

He also successfully broke the record for the most fingertips pushups while carrying a 40-pound pack in one minute.

Rashed previously told Kurdistan 24 he was determined to break previous world records as well as set new ones.

“I have a desire to push forth the name of my nation, Kurdistan,” he stated. “And, also enter my name in the Guinness Book of World Records.”

Since its inception in 1955, Guinness has sold over 137 million copies of its book in over 40 different languages.

In the past, several Kurds have tried to get their names in the record book.

However, this is the first time a Kurd from the Kurdistan Region has officially been recognized as a Guinness World Record breaker.
