ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC) announced they arrested five Islamic State (IS) extremists and killed another one in Kirkuk.

In a statement released on Sunday, the KRSC stated “in a special operation by the KRSC’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and Kirkuk Security (Asaiysh) forces today [Monday] five associates of Friday’s Kirkuk terror attack were arrested inside the city of Kirkuk.”

The KRSC statement released the name of the arrested IS members: Wisam Mahmoud Salim (known as Abu Wadhah), Marwan Faiysal Muhammed, Ammar Faiysal Muhammed, Raad Faiysal Muhammed and Abd Faiysal Muhammed, stating that “they associated with the IS terrorist group in the attack on Kirkuk on Friday October 21.”

According to the statement, it was discovered from the security forces’ investigations and intelligence that the brother of Abu Wadhah, Salam Mahmoud Muhammed (known as Abu Qadama), a senior IS operative in Kirkuk and Hawija had participated in the attack on Kirkuk.

“Abu Qadama used to live in Kirkuk and was given the responsibility to guide the IS extremists to enter the city and seize the building of Kirkuk governorate,” the statement read.

“Abu Qadama was killed in a firefight with the CTD forces today,” the statement concluded.
