ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – A Christian family whose daughter had been kidnapped by the Islamic State (IS) for over two years await the return of their daughter.

After two months of the fall of Mosul to the hands of IS insurgents in June 2014, the extremist group began their attack on the Christian-populated areas in the Nineveh Plain.

Facing no resistance from the Iraqi army, IS extremists were able to occupy the Christian towns and villages in August 2014.

However, the majority of civilians had the chance to flee to the Peshmerga-controlled areas in the Kurdistan Region.

Aida, a Christian from the recently liberated town of Qaraqosh, eastern Mosul, spoke to Kurdistan24 about the day IS attacked her town.

Additionally, she revealed to Kurdistan24’s Afsana Shamohammadi the story of the kidnapping of her daughter.

Christina, Aida’s daughter, was only 3-years-old when IS extremists took her away from her mother’s embrace and transferred her to Mosul.
