Barzani discusses bilateral relations, Mosul operation with UAE officials

In a meeting with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) officials on Sunday, the President of the Kurdistan Region Masoud Barzani discussed the fight against the Islamic State (IS) and bilateral relations.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – In a meeting with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) officials on Sunday, the President of the Kurdistan Region Masoud Barzani discussed the fight against the Islamic State (IS) and bilateral relations.

Barzani and his accompanying delegation arrived in the city of Abu Dhabi on Friday following an official invitation by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

During the meeting, Nahyan congratulated the recent victories of the Kurdish Peshmerga and Iraqi forces in the battle against IS.

Moreover, the group discussed the ongoing Mosul military operation that began on Oct. 17.

Barzani praised the Emirates Red Crescent for providing humanitarian aid to the refugees and the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the Kurdistan Region, home to over 1.8 million refugees and IDPs.

The Region continuously receives IDPs from Mosul on a daily basis.

According to the Kurdistan Region Joint Crisis Coordination Center (JCC), since the launch of the Mosul operation, 52,000 IDPs have fled to the Region.

Additionally, both sides discussed the current political situation in the Middle East and the latest developments in the region.

President Barzani also met the Foreign Minister of the UAE Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed al-Nahyan on the same day.

In the meeting with the UAE Foreign Minister, the President discussed the current situation in Iraq, the Middle East, and political developments in the region.

Both sides also talked about the new international political equations in the Middle East and bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region and the UAE.
