The Kurdistan Region President on Saturday thanked the people of Amude in Syrian Kurdistan (Rojava) for defending the high values of Kurdistan amid the reports a Kurdish flag was burned.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Region President on Saturday thanked the people of Amude in Syrian Kurdistan (Rojava) for defending the high values of Kurdistan amid reports a Kurdish flag was burned.

Masoud Barzani, the Kurdistan Region President, in a statement released on the Kurdistan Region Presidency (KRP) website, praised the people in the city of Amude.

“[The people of Amude] are the defenders of the genuineness, patriotism, and the high values of the people of Kurdistan,” the President said.

On Friday, security forces belonging to the Democratic Union Party (PYD) attacked the office of the Kurdish National Council in Syria (ENKS) in the city of Amude in the Hasakah governorate in Rojava.

During the attack, the flag of Kurdistan was burned.

Additionally, President Barzani thanked the citizens of Amude for their patience and struggle to defend the flag.

“The flag represents martyrs and is a sign of coexistence and peace,” President Barzani explained.

“I assure you the path of patriotism, Kurdish-ness, and genuineness will prevail and shame will remain for those who burn the flag of Kurdistan and torture the Kurdish youth,” the President said.

Moreover, President Barzani warned those who burn the Kurdish flag and participate in wrongdoings against Kurdish youth would “pay the price for their crimes.”

ENKS supporters in Qamishlo organized a peaceful protest against the policies of the PYD over the arrest of Kurdish party members and the closing of Kurdish offices in Rojava.

During the protest, PYD supporters, with the presence of PYD security forces, attacked the demonstrators, wounding five people.
