ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – Mosul Christians currently residing in the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in the Kurdistan Region stated they had lost families and homes and would not celebrate Christmas this year.

Following the emergence of the Islamic State (IS) in Mosul, the second-largest city in Iraq, in June 2014, several people were displaced to the Kurdistan Region.

The Region is currently home to over 1.8 million refugees and IDPs who mostly fled from other parts of Iraq.

Christians were one of the victims that had lost many family members while escaping from IS in Mosul.

“We lost family members and our homes; we are not celebrating Christmas this year,” a Christian IDP lady told Kurdistan24 on Saturday.

Another man revealed to Kurdistan24 the extremist group had killed his wife in Mosul after finding out they were Christians.

“My son and I paid a lot of money to survive and escape from Da’esh,” the man said, using the Arabic acronym for IS.
