Kurdistan Security Council announces arrest of group of oil smugglers

According to the KRSC, two of the six are members of the Kurdistan Region’s security (Asayish) forces.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC) on Thursday announced the arrest of a group of people suspected of smuggling and stealing oil in Kurdistan’s Erbil province.

The KRSC said security forces arrested six suspects involved in the smuggling and stealing of oil.

“Within the efforts of implementing the law and countering corruption, in an operation [conducted] by the security forces, a group of people responsible for stealing and smuggling oil was arrested as per the court decree,” the KRSC said in a statement.

According to the KRSC, two of the six are members of the Kurdistan Region’s security (Asayish) forces.

“The arrested people will be dealt with based on the legal procedures,” the statement added.

“After the completion of investigations, the court will finalize their cases.”

The Security Council assured the people of the Kurdistan Region that they would not allow anyone to violate their rights, vowing that those who break the law will face justice.

The KRSC also called on security forces in other provinces and areas in the Region to implement the law and take measures against those who commit crimes, such as smugglers, corrupt people, and those who protect them.
